Prince Manufacturing Announces New UL Certification
HOLLAND, MI (June 5, 2007) Contract manufacturing solution provider Prince Manufacturing announced that it can now offer its customers UL Certification.
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is a not-for-profit, privately owned and operated product safety testing and certification organization based in Northbrook, Illinois. UL develops standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment, chiefly dealing with product safety and durability under specific conditions. UL also evaluates and certifies the efficiency of a company’s business processes through its management system registration programs. UL is approved for such testing by the US federal agency OSHA.
“We’re proud to be able to offer 4X Certification to our customers,” according to Southeast Region General Manager Stephen Floyd.
“Previously, we’ve made UL Certified products for some of our customers, meaning we were meeting or exceeding their high standards. But the rating belonged to our customers. Now, for the first time, we have our own direct certification, so we’re able to offer that certification to other original equipment manufacturer clients”, said Floyd.
UL evaluates products, components, materials and systems for compliance to specific requirements, and permits acceptable products to carry a UL certification Mark, as long as they remain compliant with the standards. UL offers several categories of certification. Products under its Listing service are said to be “UL Listed,” easily identified by the distinctive UL Mark. In some cases, a component may be “UL Recognized,” meaning UL has found it acceptable for use in a complete UL Listed product. Other products may be “UL Classified” for specific hazards or properties. UL maintains a directory of more than 3 million products through an online database available to the public.
Products that receive 4X type certification are stainless steel enclosures tested against NEMA (Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association) standards for indoor or outdoor use to provide protection against corrosion, windblown dust and rain, splashing water, hose-directed water, and damage from external ice formation.
Prince Manufacturing intends to expand its UL Certification offers. “We’ll be pursuing other types of certification,” Floyd said. “Over the coming months, we intend to get a full range of approvals for other customers. We’re prepared to put our quality standards up to anyone’s measure. If a OEM customer comes to us with a specific requirement, we’re fully committed to getting the UL Certification we need to meet their needs.”
