Manufacturing Partnership with Major Diagnostic Tools Manufacturer Snap-on

Prince helps partner leverage capabilities of Mexican Assembly to make plant operate more competitively

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, MEXICO (July 23, 2009) Prince Manufacturing announced a partnership with a leading global innovator, manufacturer, and marketer of tools, diagnostics, equipment, software, and service solutions for professional users. The partnership is designed to continue operations of a vehicle diagnostics tool manufacturing facility that otherwise would have closed, costing the company the benefits of its production.

“Our partner was planning to close a major diagnostic tools facility,” according to Dean Marsman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Prince Manufacturing.  “This plant manufactures very sophisticated, high tech electronic equipment.  Despite the plant very specific and complex capabilities, the operation was comparatively small, and the overhead was terrible.”

“In a challenging economy, closing the plant would have meant everything from losses of jobs to, ultimately, higher prices for consumers,” Marsman added.  “It would have had a severe impact on the local economy on both sides of the border.  Needless to say, that’s something that our partner wanted to avoid if at all possible.  Now, our partner continues to benefit from the plant’s production profitably”.

“At the same time,” Aurelio Acosta, Prince Manufacturing General Manager, Southwest and Latin America, said, “Prince Manufacturing was looking to acquire additional operating space in the area.  We offered to take over the facility and continue its operations, producing the same high-tech equipment at the same high standards of quality.  We wrote a proposal, offered quotes, and completed the partnership within three months.

The partnership was cemented in 2006 and has been a success for both companies since.

“On a Friday evening, the facility was operated by our partner,” Acosta added.  “The following Monday, it was a Prince Manufacturing contract facility.  We don’t usually like to make a change that quickly, but when our customers need us, we have the ability and experience to make the transition quick and seamless.”

“Today, we are producing more than 300 unique SKUs for Snap-On,” Acosta said. A few of the products produced at the facility include; Power and Recharging system Diagnostic Tools, Timing Light Tests, Diagnostic Probes, and more.  “These aren’t just widgets,” Acosta said.  “These are extremely complex pieces of machinery.”

Marsman feels that companies like this one make ideal partners for Prince Manufacturing.  “We share a common commitment to quality, cost reduction, and solid corporate citizenship,” Marsman said.  “We’re both focused on quality, efficiency, and integrity, and we’re both absolutely dedicated to providing the best possible products for end users.  Working together and combining our capabilities, we’re in an even better position to meet those goals.

“Both companies are committed to creating excellent experiences for our customers and our employees.  That’s the kind of dedication that makes for an ideal partnership,” Marsman said.

Prince Manufacturing intends to expand the facility’s capabilities and capacity, serving additional customers and having a greater positive economic impact, both in Cuidad Juarez, in nearby El Paso, Texas, and throughout North America.
